Former Indian cricket captain Sunil Gavaskar has raised questions regarding current head coach Gautam Gambhir’s intentions about the distribution of prize money following India’s recent Champions Trophy 2025 victory. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a total cash prize of ₹58 crore for the winning squad, allocating ₹3 crore each to players and head coach Gambhir, ₹50 lakh to assistant coaches and support staff, and ₹25 lakh to BCCI officials.
Gavaskar highlighted that after India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph, then-coach Rahul Dravid shared his prize money equally with the support staff, emphasizing a team-first approach. He questioned whether Gambhir would follow Dravid’s example or if he viewed Dravid’s gesture as an unsuitable precedent.
Currently, Gambhir has not publicly commented on his plans for distributing his share of the prize money.
