BCCI to Remodel Team India’s Support Staff Under Head Coach Gautam Gambhir

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is contemplating changes to Team India’s support staff under head coach Gautam Gambhir following a series of disappointing performances. Recent reports indicate that the roles of assistant coaches Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate are under scrutiny due to concerns about their coaching expertise, particularly in Test cricket.

During a review meeting attended by key figures, including head coach Gautam Gambhir, captain Rohit Sharma, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and BCCI officials, the depth and effectiveness of the current support staff were questioned. While bowling coach Morne Morkel’s credentials were acknowledged positively, the lack of substantial Test cricket experience among other assistant coaches raised concerns.

In response to these concerns, the BCCI is considering reinforcing the coaching staff with individuals possessing technical expertise, especially in preparation for the upcoming tour of England. However, significant changes are expected to be deliberated upon after the conclusion of the Champions Trophy.

Additionally, the BCCI has implemented new policies aimed at enhancing discipline and unity within the team. These include restrictions on personal assistants, family members, and private staff accompanying players and support staff during tournaments. Notably, head coach Gautam Gambhir’s assistant, who was previously a regular presence, has been affected by these new regulations.

The BCCI’s focus remains on strengthening the team’s performance and addressing areas of concern within the support staff to better prepare for future international engagements.
