He sustained back spasms during the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in January 2025 and has since been undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (formerly the National Cricket Academy) in Bengaluru. Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene has indicated that while Bumrah’s recovery is progressing well, there is no specific timeline for his return. Jayawardene stated, “Daily, he’s going through his programme. So far, everything seems okay, but there were no timelines given by NCA, so we will wait on that.”
