Mohammad Amir, the former Pakistani fast bowler, has expressed openness to participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) if the opportunity arises. In a 2023 interview, Amir, who relocated to England in 2020 after marrying British citizen Narjis Khan, acknowledged that obtaining British citizenship could potentially make him eligible for IPL selection. He stated, “When I get my passport, I will avail the best opportunity I get.”
Pakistani players have been largely absent from the IPL since the inaugural season in 2008 due to political tensions between India and Pakistan. However, exceptions exist; for instance, former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood participated in the IPL after acquiring British citizenship.
Amir has clarified that while he is open to playing in the IPL, he has no intention of representing England internationally, having already played for Pakistan.
As of March 2025, there have been no official announcements regarding Amir’s participation in the IPL.
