Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur, after going unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction, has made a remarkable comeback with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), thanks in part to the support of LSG mentor Zaheer Khan. Thakur was brought into the LSG squad as an injury replacement for pacer Mohsin Khan, who was sidelined due to an ACL injury followed by a calf strain.
Reflecting on his journey, Thakur acknowledged the ups and downs of cricket and credited Zaheer Khan’s presence for his decision to join LSG. He emphasized the importance of focusing on match-winning performances rather than personal statistics.
Thakur’s impact was immediate; in a recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he delivered a stellar performance, taking four wickets for 34 runs and helping LSG restrict their opponents to 190 for nine. This included crucial dismissals of Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan in consecutive balls during the third over.
Zaheer Khan, addressing the team’s injury challenges, highlighted the dynamic nature of the situation and the need to adapt positively. Thakur’s addition to the squad has provided much-needed experience to LSG’s pace attack, especially in the absence of key bowlers like Avesh Khan and Mayank Yadav, who are recovering from injuries.
Thakur’s journey underscores the unpredictable nature of cricket and the resilience required to seize opportunities when they arise.
