Shikhar Dhawan’s Retirement from Indian Cricket Renders Him Ineligible for IPL 2025 Participation

Shikhar Dhawan, a prominent Indian cricketer, announced his retirement from all forms of international and domestic cricket in August 2024. This decision rendered him ineligible to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, as the league’s regulations require players to be active in domestic cricket to qualify. Despite his retirement, Dhawan made a notable return to competitive cricket by joining the Nepal Premier League (NPL) in late 2024, representing the Karnali Yaks. However, his participation in the NPL does not affect his eligibility for the IPL, as the latter mandates active involvement in domestic cricket under the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Consequently, Dhawan’s retirement from Indian domestic cricket precludes his participation in IPL 2025.
