Venkatesh Iyer unfazed by ₹23.75 crore IPL price tag, focused on delivering for KKR

Venkatesh Iyer, the dynamic all-rounder for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has addressed the pressures associated with his substantial ₹23.75 crore price tag ahead of IPL 2025. Despite acknowledging the inherent pressures of high expectations, Iyer emphasizes focusing on performance rather than the financial aspects. He believes that once on the field, the price tag becomes irrelevant, and the primary goal is to contribute effectively to the team’s success.

In a recent interview, Iyer reflected on the balance between the fear of failure and the hope for success, stating that while the fear exists, the aspiration to succeed is stronger, motivating him to give his best.

KKR CEO Venky Mysore also shed light on the franchise’s decision to invest heavily in Iyer during the auction. He revealed that Iyer had expressed a strong desire to remain with KKR, even playfully suggesting he would be “very sad” if not picked. This mutual respect and understanding between the player and the management played a significant role in KKR’s aggressive bidding to secure Iyer’s services.

Additionally, Iyer has expressed readiness to take on leadership roles within the team, emphasizing that leadership is about fostering an environment where everyone feels they can contribute, regardless of official titles.

As KKR’s vice-captain for the upcoming season, Iyer’s approach underscores a commitment to team success and personal excellence, aiming to justify the franchise’s faith in him through impactful performances.
